Best Square Pizza in Pacific Beach San Diego
A staple originated in the early 1920's in the Merrimack Valley Massachusetts where locals affectionately call it ''beach pizza''. It has a dough that's rolled out by hand per tradition and baked in custom made blue steel trays yielding a thin, crispy and flaky crust, slightly sweet tomatoes sauce, Wisconsin mozzarella & imported oregano.
This our take on a tradition that goes back to 1946 in Detroit Michigan. This Sicilian pie gets stretched twice and baked in metal trays where a blend of Wisconsin cheeses are pilled up high, right to the edge, creating a border of golden brown crispy cheese that people fell in love with.
Slow-fermented pizza dough stretched and pushed out by hand, that yields an airy, fluffy, and flavorful crust. Made with organic tomato Basil sauce, Wisconsin Mozzarella cheese & finished off with fresh basil, parmesan cheese, and imported oregano. Because of the time required to prep and craft this pizza, it is available only at the shop by the square in limited daily quantities and full pizzas with a minimum of 6hrs notice. There is no Pizza quite like this in Pacific Beach. I had the good fortune of being given a behind the scenes look and taste of their high quality ingredients and was given an education on how their Pizza's are made. Everything from how the dough is freshly prepared everyday down to how to season the pans. The styles they have are unique, delicious, sweet and savory. I can't decide which style I like better, Beach Pizza and Detroit styles are both great!
The customer service here is top notch. My family and I were visiting San Diego for the holiday and we are from Chicago. Chicago has some of the best food ever, not to mention the best PIZZA around! They do a fantastic job with this pizza. Very flavorful and the crust is PERFECT!! Great recommendations when we first walked in and we went home very satisfied! A must try if you are in the area!
The concept is amazing! The shape is unique, but better yet, the taste is to die for. The secret sauce has people lining out the door. The crust, oh boy the crust is so moist and crunchy at the same time, bringing me back to my pizza experiences in New York and Boston.
